Several plastic based products are used in agriculture. Huge quantities of post-consumer plastic materials need to be properly managed and disposed of. An inappropriate disposal of agricultural plastic waste can cause environmental and economic damages. Agricultural plastic waste is a precious resource to be exploited to produce new secondary raw materials or to recover energy, depending on the waste material composition, dirtiness and contamination. This chapter describes the main issues related to agricultural plastic waste. The problem of agricultural plastic waste location is widely recognized. Waste mapping by means of GIS methodology and satellite images classification is described. These techniques provide a georeferenced database for quantifying waste as useful tool for waste managers and decision-makers.
