Dinamiche di trasformazione di borghi e paesaggi rurali

The proposed reflections draw inspiration from a research itinerary dedicated to the study of small-medium sized urban organisms in the Apulian geographical area, with particular attention to the relationship between the urban centre-periurban areas-agricultural areas, to the possibility of favoring a virtuous relationship between the oldest nucleus, which is the place where the historical stratification is most dense, and the rural landscape where the signs of natural and anthropic transformations are equally evident. The profound transformation imposed on the landscape by industry has altered its physiognomy by distorting the meaning of places with the imposition of the new at any cost, which has rejected the concept of 'duration over time' by denying the value of historical sedimentation. In other cases the new has given up on itself to endorse imitative interventions that have distorted the meaning of places, simplifying and impoverishing the built reality. However, there is the possibility of a new quality attentive to the value of the place, to the historical value, to the symbolic value, to the functional value thanks to a reversal of direction registered with the decommissioning of plants and factories and a simultaneous change of the cultural vision which, recognizing the unsustainability of the consumerist approach, it has led to a revaluation of the existing, worthy of respect and appreciation. This opens up the possibility of reclaiming compromised areas, recovering abandoned factories, hypothesizing a functional re-destination, reviving the rural landscape, safeguarding and revitalizing small urban centres.

Le riflessioni che si propongono traggono spunto da un itinerario di ricerca dedicato allo studio di organismi urbani di dimensioni medio-piccole nell’areale geografico pugliese, con un’attenzione particolare al rapporto centro urbano-aree periurbane-aree agricole, alla possibilità di favorire un rapporto virtuoso fra il nucleo più antico, che è il luogo dove più densa è la stratificazione storica, e il paesaggio rurale dove sono altrettanto evidenti i segni delle trasformazioni naturali e antropiche. La profonda trasformazione imposta al paesaggio dall’industria ne ha alterato la fisionomia stravolgendo il significato dei luoghi con l’imposizione del nuovo ad ogni costo, che ha rigettato il concetto di ‘durata nel tempo’ negando il valore della sedimentazione storica. In altri casi il nuovo ha rinunciato a se stesso per avallare interventi imitativi che hanno snaturato il significato dei luoghi, semplificando e impoverendo la realtà costruita. Tuttavia esiste la possibilità di un nuovo di qualità attento al valore del luogo, al valore storico, al valore simbolico, al valore funzionale grazie ad un’inversione di rotta registrata con la dismissione di impianti e opifici ed un simultaneo mutamento della visione culturale che, riconoscendo l’insostenibilità dell’impostazione consumistica, ha portato ad una rivalutazione dell’esistente, meritevole di rispetto e apprezzamento. Ciò apre alla possibilità di bonificare le aree compromesse, recuperare gli opifici dismessi, ipotizzare una ri-destinazione funzionale, rinverdire il paesaggio rurale, salvaguardare e rivitalizzare i piccoli centri urbani.
