This paper deals with the investigation of the measurement accuracy of characteristic parameters of digitized non-sinusoidal signals. Errors caused by frequency variation and lack of synchronization are also investigated. The correct expression of these errors in terms both of typical parameters of the used window and characteristics of the signal are given to allow a suitable choice mof the filter and of its parameters, which may increase the estimation accuracy. The relations between the stationary case errors and the non-stationary ones are carried out. Finally, a new interpolation technique which allows very accurate measurements of the instantaneous frequencies and amplitudes of the signal, even if heavily non-stationary components are present, is proposed.
