Elisabetta Ognibene: A Militant Feminist Designer

The landscape of Italian graphic design in the twentieth century is internationally renowned primarily for being constellated with the many male figures who are considered to be largely responsible for developing the communication of the most important Italian companies between the 1950s and the 1970s. While these designers are famous around the world, there are a myriad of stories in the Italian ‘creative’ panorama that have yet to be explored and deserve to be told, especially those that concern women. With the exception of Lora Lamm and Anita Klinz , both of whom were active during the golden age of Italian design and have been the object of recent studies, the contribution of Italian women designers to national and international graphic design remains unknown. And it is precisely among these semi-unknown stories that the work of Elisabetta Ognibene may be situated.
