The history of the excavations of the important sanctuary of the Kabeiroi at Chloi (Lemnos) has been well illustrated by L. Beschi, its most recent excavator, who provided a chronological framework for the Hellenistic building located on the northern terrace of the sanctuary, as well as a reconstruction hypothesis that has since been widely accepted. However, a recent reexamination of the structures and architectural fragments related to the “Hellenistic” Telesterion, as reconstructed, suggests the need to revise Beschi’s interpretation, particularly with regard to unresolved issues concerning the construction and chronology of the building, which now appears to have been built in multiple phases starting from the second half of the 4th c. BC.
