The paper presents an overview on the problem of waveform recorder characterization, stressing the opportunity of working out a standard for the model identification of a recorder. As a concrete contribution to this project, the authors propose a unified complete behaÍioral model for single-channel data acquisition systems, discuss the suitability of known test methods for its identification, and draw some guidelines for the construction of a complete identification procedure.
