The growing utilization of nonlinear loads has determined a considerable increase of deformation of current and voltage waveforms in distribution systems. Therefore it is necessary to fit measuring instruments and systems currently used in the sinusoidal systems to the deformed ones. This paper describes a method that - using the FFT algorithm - allows the measurements of voltage, current, harmonic residues, power and energy by a single digital instrument. Advantages and limits are discussed, and a microprocessor solution is proposed as a further development.

Abstract
