Ranko Bon is best‐known for his studies of building economics. Less known is his contribution to the debate on sustainable construction, which shows unique features, particularly if compared to those of most recent related studies. By building upon on the initial systems approach to the problem of ‘the limits to growth’ and its macro‐ and micro‐economic implications, Bon proposes a unique methodological contribution to such a problem. This paper outlines the historical debate about sustainability, its relation with construction and finally Bon's personal contribution in this regard.

Abstract

Ranko Bon is best‐known for his studies of building economics. Less known is his contribution to the debate on sustainable construction, which shows unique features, particularly if compared to those of most recent related studies. By building upon on the initial systems approach to the problem of ‘the limits to growth’ and its macro‐ and micro‐economic implications, Bon proposes a unique methodological contribution to such a problem. This paper outlines the historical debate about sustainability, its relation with construction and finally Bon's personal contribution in this regard.
