This paperpresentsa2-Dnumericalstudyonthenonlinearseismicresponseofbuildingsequippedwith two typesofenergydissipators,whichdissipateenergyactivatingtwodifferentmechanisms.Three types ofreinforcedconcretebuildingswith3,7and15stories,respectivelyrepresentativeofshort, medium andlongperiodranges,areconsidered.Dissipatorsareplacedonsteeldiagonalbracesatallthe floors; theirslidingthreshold(oryielding)forcesaretakenas100%ofthosegeneratedbytheequivalent static lateralforcesrecommendedbyEC8foraductilemomentresistingframe.Theinputconsistsofsix recordedearthquakes,3representativesofnear-field earthquakesand3representativesoffar-field earthquakes.Eachinputisconsideredoncefromthebedrockandonce filteredbyacommonground with severallayersofdifferentthicknesses.Theresponsesofthebuildingsarediscussedandcompared emphasizing the filtering effects produced by the ground.
