In this note we consider a generalized Camassa-Holm equation. We improve the compactness argument of \cite{CHK:GenCH, CKR1, CKR2, XZ1} and prove the existence of global weak solutions for any initial data from $H^1(\R)$ without the use of an Ole{\u\i}nik type estimate.
