The present study provides an accurate analytical characterization of the conservation state of the Byzantine wall paintings from the church of Lama d’Antico, Southern Italy, dating back to the X-XII century. In order to plan an effective intervention, an assessment of preservation state of the monuments was necessary. This paper describes a series of preliminary mineralogic-petrographic and chemico-physical analyses on samples withdrawn from the interior wall paintings of the church. The undertaken investigations aimed to the study and description of the stratigraphy, nature of pigments, binders media and re-paintings, and moreover to the identification of the occurring biological degradation.

Abstract
The present study provides an accurate analytical characterization of the conservation state of the Byzantine wall paintings from the church of Lama d’Antico, Southern Italy, dating back to the X-XII century. In order to plan an effective intervention, an assessment of preservation state of the monuments was necessary. This paper describes a series of preliminary mineralogic-petrographic and chemico-physical analyses on samples withdrawn from the interior wall paintings of the church. The undertaken investigations aimed to the study and description of the stratigraphy, nature of pigments, binders media and re-paintings, and moreover to the identification of the occurring biological degradation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
