Various aspects of integrated optics and its (strategic) importance for the development of telecommunications in the near future are considered. Lithium niobate (LiNbO//3) is one of the materials contributing to this development due to its optimal optical, acousto-optical and electro-optical properties both in the visible and the near infrared region. Lithium niobate is used as a substratum for the implementation of optical waveguides of high quality and thus enables the fabrication of various integrated active and passive optical devices useful both for the processing and manipulation of optical signals
