This paper investigates a converter topology for driving high-speed electrical machines. Such solution is meant to be an alternative to SiC MOSFET based inverters which have been considered a profitable choice especially in the aeronautical field. It allows a reduced number of SiC devices and a good tradeoff between EMI, insulation stress and reduced switching losses. To this purpose a modified version of the Space Vector Modulation must be used to limit the inverter switching frequency without reducing the sampling frequency of the motor control. The DC voltage regulation required by this scheme is really demanding and errors produced by the PI based linear control technique affect the output inverter voltage and, consequently, the high speed drive performance. In this work an analysis of the whole system has been carried out and solutions to the above mentioned issues are proposed.
