In a period of widespread restructuring of Italy's ports and waterfront, particular importance has been gven to the coast of Puglia in southern Italy, and the creation of the new links with Balkan and Greek ports on the other side of the Adriatic. The redeveloment of the port of Monopoli is a case in point. The relationship of this highly specialised port with the urban waterfront and existing building is undergoing interesting changes.
