Magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) are included in the group of smart materials, having the unique ability to change their viscosity and their yield stress in response to a magnetic field as well as the external operating power. These fluids have recently received significant attention due to their adaptability and high reliability in the operation of semi-active control systems requiring small power sources. The purpose of this paper is to review practical applications of MRF technology to provide a technical rationale of the use of these smart materials for future applications.

Abstract
Magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) are included in the group of smart materials, having the unique ability to change their viscosity and their yield stress in response to a magnetic field as well as the external operating power. These fluids have recently received significant attention due to their adaptability and high reliability in the operation of semi-active control systems requiring small power sources. The purpose of this paper is to review practical applications of MRF technology to provide a technical rationale of the use of these smart materials for future applications.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
