This paper presents a preliminary study on an aluminium shear panel for the seismic protection of structures. The aluminium alloy was chosen for its low yield stress that will minimize the displacements that induce inelastic excursions in the hysteretic damper. A numerical analysis has been performed on a single-bay one-floor steel frame equipped with two aluminium shear panels. The results have been compared to those obtained for a similar mild steel device. The aluminium shear panel reduces the maximum base shear forces and shows a larger dissipation capacity compared to the mild steel one.

Abstract
This paper presents a preliminary study on an aluminium shear panel for the seismic protection of structures. The aluminium alloy was chosen for its low yield stress that will minimize the displacements that induce inelastic excursions in the hysteretic damper. A numerical analysis has been performed on a single-bay one-floor steel frame equipped with two aluminium shear panels. The results have been compared to those obtained for a similar mild steel device. The aluminium shear panel reduces the maximum base shear forces and shows a larger dissipation capacity compared to the mild steel one.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
