The paper introduces a new approach to design a multi-band distributed VCOs for modern TLC applications. The multi-band capability is achieved thanks to a novel tuning scheme based on the proposed "switched-cells tuning technique" able to fully exploit the potentialities of a distribute VCO. The design procedure is discussed. The simulated and measured characteristics of a first fully integrated four-band DVCO are reported, validating the capabilities of the presented approach.

Abstract

The paper introduces a new approach to design a multi-band distributed VCOs for modern TLC applications. The multi-band capability is achieved thanks to a novel tuning scheme based on the proposed "switched-cells tuning technique" able to fully exploit the potentialities of a distribute VCO. The design procedure is discussed. The simulated and measured characteristics of a first fully integrated four-band DVCO are reported, validating the capabilities of the presented approach.
