Abstract

An innovative Boundary Element methodology has been developed to study the recip-rocating contact mechanics between linear viscoelastic materials. We show results for the case of a rigid sphere sinusoidally driven in sliding contact with a viscoelastic half-space. We ob-serve the presence of multi-peaked pressure and displacement distributions; the hysteric friction curve is finally shown for different values of the frequency. Preliminary experimental results are present.
