An innovative Boundary Element methodology has been developed to study the recip-rocating contact mechanics between linear viscoelastic materials. We show results for the case of a rigid sphere sinusoidally driven in sliding contact with a viscoelastic half-space. We ob-serve the presence of multi-peaked pressure and displacement distributions; the hysteric friction curve is finally shown for different values of the frequency. Preliminary experimental results are present.

Abstract
An innovative Boundary Element methodology has been developed to study the recip-rocating contact mechanics between linear viscoelastic materials. We show results for the case of a rigid sphere sinusoidally driven in sliding contact with a viscoelastic half-space. We ob-serve the presence of multi-peaked pressure and displacement distributions; the hysteric friction curve is finally shown for different values of the frequency. Preliminary experimental results are present.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
