Silicon-on-Insulator slot waveguides for highly sensitive and compact photonic integrated sensors are theoretically proposed and discussed in this paper. Slot guiding structure sensitivity has been investigated by 3D Finite Element Method and results are compared with those related to rib or wire sub-micrometer silicon waveguides.

Abstract
