3D digitization of human bodies is used in several knowledge domains, as regards textile applications, the most commonly used digitizing systems can be classified on the basis of the technologies used: laser scanning, structured light projection, image elaboration and modeling, microwaves. In the present research the authors present a properly designed low cost off-line 3D body digitizer, based on Digital Close Range Photogrammetry. Tests on dummy busts are reported, demonstrating the profitability of the technique for textile applications.

Abstract

3D digitization of human bodies is used in several knowledge domains, as regards textile applications, the most commonly used digitizing systems can be classified on the basis of the technologies used: laser scanning, structured light projection, image elaboration and modeling, microwaves. In the present research the authors present a properly designed low cost off-line 3D body digitizer, based on Digital Close Range Photogrammetry. Tests on dummy busts are reported, demonstrating the profitability of the technique for textile applications.
