The flow optimization problem in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) is discussed. Two algorithms are presented. The first is based on nonlinear programming; the second gives a suboptimal solution and utilizes linear programming. Both algorithms are suitable for microcomputer implementation. Two examples showing the efficiency of the methods are presented.
