We report on the low-loss coupling of 5.3 µm quantum cascade lasers to cylindrical hollow waveguides. A single-mode far field output is achieved in a wide range of coupling parameters. The waveguides have longitudinal lengths in the range 3–14 cm and an inner bore diameter of 1000 μm.
