Due to the increasing energy demand and severe environmental problems, buildings with low energy demands have been increasingly promoted worldwide. Under the background of enhanced passive techniques and renewable energy multi-systems, the demand for accurate switching among different systems and the matching balance among different strategies has become an increasing operation issue. In this paper, taking systematic composition and meteorological features into consideration, on-site measurements of multiple strategies in four typical seasons were conducted in a passive office building in cold region of China, as well as the simulation of three control strategies of the ground source heat pump. Based on the multi-dimensional datasets, a new assessment indicator named Index of Combined Energy Consumption and Indoor Thermal Comfort was proposed to make quantized assessments among multiple strategies, instead of previous assessments via separated indicators. Through applications in different seasons, this new indicator has been validated to be applicable especially when faced with contrary trends between thermal comfort and energy saving, for example the comparison between natural refrigerant via by-pass pipes and natural ventilation combined with air fans in transitional season. Thus, this proposed indicator can facilitate quick operational decision-making for passive buildings with multi-systems.
