Il design italiano dell'ultimo decennio è raccontato attraverso una regola antologica organizzata per temi: comunicazione, creatività, icone, ingegno del fare, innovazione, musei e conoscenza, territori e valori, visioni e utopie, designer e imprenditore. Un espediente che ha reso possibile considerare immagini, parole, prodotti e persone organizzati per tes , come una sorta di prodotto estrattivo. Vale a dire una selezione orientata dell'ampia e controversa teoria del design italiano, per fare emergere la sua eclettica natura, crocevia di diversi linguaggi. Per rendere intellegibile questa fenomenologia, in un tempo così indeterminato come quello di cui siamo testimoni, dieci anni sono sembrati emblematici per rappresentarne l'ampiezza dei suoi valori. Valori non transitori presenti in progetti e prodotti, connessi inoltre ad un passato, talvolta ingombrante, per mezzo di un comune manifesto intellettuale riassumibile nell'espressione " innovazione per cultura", che suona piuttosto come un programma, il più aderente probabilmente ad una idea di continuità simbolica tra generazioni diverse che, pur da posizioni opposte, rendono coerente il lavoro di maestri, artisti, giovani designer, designer anonimi e imprese nel comprovare l'identità di quella originale cultura materiale che la storia e la tradizione attribuiscono al design italiano
