Rh(PPh(3))(3)Cl undergoes easy and quantitative coordination to hydrophilic macromolecular isocyanides to give a supported rhodium complex which, activated at 50 degrees C under 1 atm dihydrogen behaves as a versatile and recyclable catalyst for the hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes, nitriles and nitrocompounds under mild conditions. Unsaturated aldehydes are converted into saturated aldehydes whereas nitriles are selectively converted into the corresponding imines or secondary amines depending on the reaction conditions.

Abstract

Rh(PPh(3))(3)Cl undergoes easy and quantitative coordination to hydrophilic macromolecular isocyanides to give a supported rhodium complex which, activated at 50 degrees C under 1 atm dihydrogen behaves as a versatile and recyclable catalyst for the hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes, nitriles and nitrocompounds under mild conditions. Unsaturated aldehydes are converted into saturated aldehydes whereas nitriles are selectively converted into the corresponding imines or secondary amines depending on the reaction conditions.
