Irrigated agriculture in the Mediterranean faces significant environmental and socio-economic challenges, requiring innovative solutions to enhance resilience and efficiency. The ERASMUS project, with a particular focus on pressurized irrigation systems, proposes an integrated modelling approach to evaluate the multidimensional impacts of smart water management technologies. By leveraging a Nexus approach, the project develops and applies innovative indicators to assess network performance, resource footprint, and ecosystem resilience. Pilot studies in Southern Italy provide real-world validation, supported by Communities of Innovation. The outcomes will guide sustainable management strategies for irrigation networks, balancing operational efficiency with broader environmental and socio-economic benefits.
