The paper describes the results of a monitoring activity developed during 2008 on the quality of the river Ufita, in Campania region, in Southern Italy. The river Ufita is a right tributary of the river Calore Irpino. It has a total length of about 50 Km and it is located in the basin of the river Volturno. The first part of the activity was focused on the definition of the diffused and punctual pollution sources, on the hydro-geological characterization and, finally, on the research of previous environmental data regarding the river Ufita. While, the second part of the activity was aimed at monitoring the quality of the river Ufita by means of in situ measurements (dissolved oxygen, temperature and pH) as well as laboratory analysis. The quality of the river was eva- luated both when the river was low (from June to November) and when there was a moderate flow. The obtained results pointed out a worsening of several parameters in comparison with the values obtained by the regional Environmental Agency (ARPAC) for the previous year (2007). The paper ends with the proposition of possible intervention strategies aimed at improving the quality of water of the river Ufita. These interventions could facilitate the development of com- plementary projects related to the tourism of rural areas.
In quest’articolo sono presentati e discussi i risulta-ti di uno studio condotto nel 2008 sulla qualità delle acque delfiume Ufita in Campania. Affluente in destra del Calore Irpino,il fiume Ufita ha una lunghezza di circa 50 km e rientra nelbacino idrografico del fiume Volturno. Dopo una prima faseconoscitiva finalizzata all’individuazione delle sorgenti puntua-li e diffuse d’inquinamento su scala di bacino, alla caratterizza-zione idrogeologica e all’analisi dei risultati delle indaginiambientali pregresse, lo studio ha previsto l’esecuzione di unacampagna di monitoraggio della qualità delle acque del fiumemediante misure in situ (ossigeno disciolto, temperatura, pH) eanalisi di laboratorio. La qualità del fiume è stata valutata conriferimento sia al periodo di magra (da giugno a novembre) siaal periodo di morbida. I risultati ottenuti mostrano un peggio-ramento della maggior parte dei parametri macrodescrittoririspetto ai medesimi relativi all’anno precedente, così comedeterminati dall’Arpa Campania. L’articolo si conclude con laproposizione di possibili strategie d’intervento finalizzate almiglioramento della qualità del corso d’acqua, sottolineandocome il miglioramento della fruibilità del fiume potrebbe fun-gere da volano per lo sviluppo di progetti “complementari” ine-renti soprattutto al turismo delle aree interne
