In this paper "low resistance domains" for rectangular and circular compressed reinforced concrete columns, whose load carrying capacity is significantly influenced by second order effects, are presented. Domains have been evaluated according to the "model column method", respecting the rules provided for by Eurocode 2 and by Ministerial Decree 09-01-1996. The results that can be obtained following the above mentioned standards are compared, and a critical comparison with the "allowable stresses method" is performed by considering also the draft of the new Italian code. The effects related to creep phenomena are ignored.

Abstract

In this paper "low resistance domains" for rectangular and circular compressed reinforced concrete columns, whose load carrying capacity is significantly influenced by second order effects, are presented. Domains have been evaluated according to the "model column method", respecting the rules provided for by Eurocode 2 and by Ministerial Decree 09-01-1996. The results that can be obtained following the above mentioned standards are compared, and a critical comparison with the "allowable stresses method" is performed by considering also the draft of the new Italian code. The effects related to creep phenomena are ignored.
