The present paper describes the dynamic experimental campaign carried out on the bell tower of the sanctuary of Santa Maria di Loreto (Mola di Bari, Italy). The church was built in the sixteen century and has on its left side a high bell tower with heavy bells. The tower has been analyzed because it can be considered representative of a wide spread class of constructions. The paper presents the details of the adopted monitoring system for the acquisition of the vibrations induced by the environmental actions and/or the bells’ motion. The experimental setup makes use of several high sensitive accelerometers installed on three levels of the bell tower. In order to identify the modal parameters of the bell tower, several tests have been performed, and the data have been analyzed by means of statistic techniques of Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) operating both in the time and in the frequency domains. Moreover, two tests were carried out by manually moving the bells located on the structure in order to test their effect on the structure; an innovative methodology for analyzing these data will be shown and the obtained results will permit to analyze in detail the effects of these bells on the tower.

Abstract
Moreover, two tests were carried out by manually moving the bells located on the structure in order to test their effect on the structure; an innovative methodology for analyzing these data will be shown and the obtained results will permit to analyze in detail the effects of these bells on the tower.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
